about
Hi there! I’m Christiana, I created Firefly Explorers Nature School to offer parents and caregivers alike an opportunity to get outside with their children in a guided exploration-based class.
I’ve witnessed firsthand how children THRIVE in the outdoors. Firefly Explorers is rooted in the belief that children need nature to help them grow, which is exactly what we offer! Each lesson is designed to be well suited for little minds and bodies.

I am a certified Nature-Based Teacher through the Eastern Region Association of Forest and Nature Schools and I also hold a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Maryland. I have a passion for getting people of all ages outdoors enjoying nature! I’ve worked for organizations such as the Virginia Aquarium, Nature Forward (formerly the Audubon Naturalist Society), and the Carrie Murray Nature Center. I have 8+ years of experience in hands-on nature education as well as attending numerous outdoor education conferences and further education opportunities. Some of these experiences include Virginia Master Naturalist, Project WILD certification, Maryland Master Naturalist, workshops with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, and MAEOE conference attendance.

I believe that God has given us the gift of nature to slow down, marvel at, and enjoy! I am eager to show you and your family the JOY of being outside together. Nature is truly such a gift and an incredible display of God’s love and handiwork!
Some of my fondest childhood memories include visiting National Parks with my family and exploring the woods behind my home with my childhood dog, Aimee. These early experiences in nature shaped me into the person I am today. My hope is that I can provide amazing experiences in nature for you and your family, that your children will cherish for years to come.

I am a born and raised Marylander and moved to Chesapeake, VA about 4 years ago. I’m married to my high school sweetheart, a dog mom to my adventure pup Thea, nature lover, and a proud aunt to 5 amazing nieces.

I believe “there’s no such thing as bad weather”! Here I am teaching a program in the pouring rain- still one of my favorite teaching memories to date!
